SWRA - Wine Without Borders

what we stand for
Specialty Wine Retailers Association stands for a free market in wine, unencumbered by protectionist state laws that prevent consumers from legally obtaining the wines they want. SWRA stands for a true national wine market in which consumers and retailers can transact business in an appropriately regulated milieu. This means that any adult consumer in any state should be allowed to legally purchase and have shipped to them any wine from any retailer in America.

THE ROLE OF THE RETAILER IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN EVER
With the advent of the Internet, wine lovers now have access to more information on wine than ever before. This is partly responsible for the continued increase in interest in wine. But it's the searching capability of the Internet that means consumers can now find nearly any wine they've ever heard of or read about being sold by a retailer somewhere in the United States.

This reality places the wine retailer in the unique position to fill the growing and legitimate demand created by an expanding market of wine lovers. The wine retailer, be they brick and mortar, auction houses, Internet stores, wine clubs or wine cataloguers, are in the unique position of being able to fulfill this growing consumer demand. SWRA believes that state and federal laws should respect the consumer and allow them to explore the world of wine unencumbered by laws meant only to protect middlemen from competition at the expense of the consumer.

HOW SWRA FIGHTS ON BEHALF OF CONSUMERS AND RETAILERS
Whether in the courts, the legislatures or the media, SWRA is committed to standing up for the rights of the consumer and retailer. This also means being vocal in support of wineries' rights to sell and ship wine to adult consumers. SWRA has and will continue to litigate where unconstitutional laws are in place, lobby where proposed laws threatened to undermine consumer and retailer rights and speak out when protectionist-minded, powerful minorities attempt to bend public opinion into the service of their own wallets.

WHO ARE SWRA MEMBERS?
SWRA consists of brick and mortar wine retailers, Internet-based wine retailers, wine cataloguers, wine auction houses and supporter from both within and outside the wine industry.
